A cohesive, connected workday for more than 200,000 employees

For one of Australia’s largest employers, finding information at work had become unnecessarily difficult. Employees relied on multiple systems to access policies, communications, training, HR services and operational tools, creating inconsistent experiences across stores, support offices and distribution centres.

blueegg partnered with Woolworths to design Me@Woolies TeamSpace - a personalised digital workplace that brings together critical information, services and tools into a single experience. Across an 18-month engagement, the team combined research, service design, UX, accessibility and platform design to simplify how employees access the resources they need every day.

CONTEXT

Growth had outpaced the employee experience

As Woolworths continued to grow, so too did its collection of digital platforms, policies and business services. Information lived across disconnected systems, each organised differently and using business-specific terminology.

The challenge extended beyond technology. Employees often relied on managers or support teams simply to find information, creating inconsistent experiences and unnecessary effort across the organisation.

PROBLEM

Fragmented channels, eroded confidence

Navigation varied across systems, information architecture reflected internal business structures rather than employee needs, and new team members found it especially difficult to understand where to begin.

The organisation needed a single destination that employees could trust to surface relevant information quickly, regardless of where that information was stored.

APPROACH

Pairing evidence-led research with rapid prototyping to reduce uncertainty

Qualitative and quantitative research was used throughout the program to validate new concepts with team members, while findings were captured in a growing research repository that informed future work. Every round of testing helped reduce uncertainty before implementation and strengthened confidence in design decisions.

The engagement included content strategy, accessibility, UX and UI design, stakeholder workshops, user testing, service integration, build support and interactive prototyping using Salesforce Lightning Design System, alongside planning for more than 30 API integrations.

OUTCOME

A cohesive, source of truth for efficient workflow and support

Me@Woolies TeamSpace now provides a central experience for accessing work-critical information and services across the organisation.

The project delivered:

  • A redesigned information architecture spanning multiple enterprise systems.
  • Integration of more than 30 APIs and business services.
  • Personalised content and contextual recommendations.
  • Human-centred AI capabilities embedded into employee workflows.
  • A scalable design system supporting ongoing product development.

Today, more than 200,000 store and support team members access work-critical content and services through the platform. Continuous research throughout the program also established a reusable evidence base that informs future employee experience initiatives
