Excited to share we have former Global Head of Design & Innovation at QBE and now Fractional Design Systems Director at Guernik, Gaston Guernik speaking on "Design Systems, Business Outcomes, and the Human Layer We Forget."
Design Systems live between structure and scale—but what makes them thrive is the human layer we often overlook.
This talk explores the systems behind the system: influence, negotiation, shared purpose, and the relationships that enable real adoption. Because the truth is, no design system works without people who care, who teach, and who grow together.
For 10+ years, Gaston ran a digital agency in Barcelona—built from scratch with no investors, just effort, persistence, and late nights. Over time, he had the privilege of working with brands like Audi, Schweppes, Heineken, banks, and other companies. One highlight was leading the creation of modular retail systems that reduced setup time from months to days.
Gaston moved to Australia 12 years ago, where he has worked across banking, insurance, consultancy, and tourism. From 2019 to 2025, he led the global UI, UX, Design System, and Innovation strategy at QBE—impacting 145+ countries and 200+ products. He has built scalable systems, internal tools, and worked closely with C-level stakeholders to align product and business goals.
